Jan.28, 2012 The Eagles clawed out a 6-5 win against the Lakeville North Panthers at the Ames Arena. AVPUCK was down 2-zip in the 2nd period when Anthony Benda hammered one in from the point (assisted by Dusty LaFrance). But the Panthers responded and promptly scored 2 more goals to go up 4-1. The Eagles would get their comeback chance when the Lakeville North drew two separate 5-minute majors for boarding and head contact. Sean Lang quickly took advantage of the situation and tacked on 2 goals for the Eagles within 25 seconds of each other. Both goals were assisted by Derek Smith and Tate Erickson. The 2nd period finished out with a 4-3 lead by the Panthers. Early in the 3rd period Dusty LaFrance tied it up for AVPUCK with a top shelf goal assisted by Derek Smith. But a questionable minor penalty to Sean Lang allowed the Panthers to pull ahead 5-4. Sean Lang wasn't taking any of that and promptly tied it up with his 3rd goal of the night, not to mention his 2nd hat-trick of the season. Just when it looked like the game was headed for OT, Christian Smith drove hard to the net and found a side door to score the winning goal with under 2 minutes left. Final score 6-5 Eagles over Panthers. JV also beat the Panthers earlier in the evening with a 4-3 hard fought game. The Eagles face the Wildcats at 7:15PM, Thursday, Feb.2 at the Eagan Ice Arena. |
